Construction
This expansion joint features a single-sphere rubber body, molded from weather-resistant synthetic rubber. The sphere is reinforced with high-strength nylon fabric and steel wire rings embedded within the rubber, enabling it to withstand elevated pressures and resist excessive elongation. The rubber material is typically available in EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), suitable for hot water, steam, and mild acidic or alkaline media, with a continuous operating temperature of up to 110°C. EPDM also offers excellent UV, ozone, and weather resistance, making it suitable for outdoor installations. The flanges are of floating (Vanstone) design, constructed from ductile iron or zinc-plated carbon steel, and can rotate 360 degrees. This allows bolt holes to be aligned easily during installation without precise pre-matching, significantly reducing installation effort.
Function
The connector simultaneously accommodates axial compression and extension, lateral offset, and angular deflection. It effectively compensates for dimensional changes caused by thermal expansion and contraction, and isolates vibration transmitted from pumps, compressors, and other equipment. The spherical arch design ensures the rubber body does not come into contact with bolt heads during expansion, enhancing operational safety.
Installation Notes
Proper pipe support and anchoring are required during installation. Where axial forces are significant, anti-pull-out rods are recommended to prevent excessive extension.
