Overview

Rubber sphere body is the core flexible element of rubber expansion joint, also known as flexible rubber joint or rubber bellows. It is integrally vulcanized with multi-layer reinforced cord fabric. Supplied without flanges, this component is clamped between pipe flanges to achieve medium sealing, pipeline displacement compensation and vibration isolation.

The sphere consists of inner rubber layer, reinforced cord fabric layer, outer rubber layer and flange beads on both ends. The inner rubber contacts the medium directly; the polyester or nylon cord fabric reinforcement bears internal pressure to avoid rupture. The outer rubber protects the reinforcement against ozone and aging. Thickened flange beads fit into flanges for reliable sealing and anti-disengagement.

Two main types are available: single sphere and double sphere. Single sphere features compact size and lower cost for small displacement conditions. Double sphere has longer length and can absorb larger axial and lateral displacement, ideal for pump connections and pipelines with obvious thermal expansion.

Material Options

  • EPDM: For clean water, seawater, weak acid and alkali, hot water. Temperature range -30 ~ +120℃, good weather and ozone resistance.
  • NBR: For oil, petroleum gas and mineral oil. Temperature range -20 ~ +80℃, excellent oil resistance.
  • NR: For normal temperature clean water and vibration damping. Temperature range -15 ~ +80℃, high elasticity.
  • CR: Balanced weather, ozone and moderate oil resistance. Temperature range -20 ~ +90℃.

Key Functions

  • Compensate axial compression & extension, lateral displacement and angular deflection
  • Block vibration transmission from pumps and fans, reduce noise
  • Absorb thermal expansion, installation misalignment and foundation settlement
  • Buffer water hammer impact and protect piping equipment

Applications

Water supply & drainage, HVAC, fire protection, pump station, wastewater treatment, petrochemical and marine piping systems.

Standards & Notes

Manufactured in accordance with GB/T 26121-2010. Common pressure ratings: PN10, PN16, Class150. For export orders, material, working pressure and temperature shall be clearly marked.

Common Failure & Suggestions

Ball bulging is normally caused by overpressure, please select proper pressure grade. Inner rubber cracking results from over-temperature or incompatible medium, confirm rubber material before ordering. Bead tearing usually comes from forced pulling during installation; align pipes naturally. Long time UV exposure will lead to cord aging, use weather-resistant outer rubber for outdoor service.
