It is directly connected to the corresponding flange disc on the pipeline system through bolts, thereby forming a detachable and sealed flexible pipeline connection. 
 
Structure and Key Components
Bellows: Core component, formed from thin-walled metal tubes, responsible for flexible deformation and compensation.
Flange: Connecting piece, usually welded to the end tube or formed integrally with the bellows.
End Tube: Short tube connecting the bellows and the flange.
Inner Liner Sleeve: Installed inside the bellows, used to guide smooth fluid flow and prevent high-speed erosion or vortex wear of the bellows.
Outer Cover/Protection Shell: Used to protect the bellows from external mechanical damage or insulation material compression. Usually made of thin steel plates.
Transport Rod/Positioning Bolt: (Very important!) Used to protect the bellows from excessive compression or stretching during transportation and installation. It must be removed before the system is officially operational; otherwise, the expansion joint will not function and will immediately be damaged. 
 
Main features:
1. Easy installation and disassembly:
This is its most prominent advantage. Just align the two pairs of flanges, insert the bolts and tighten them to complete the installation. When it is necessary to replace, maintain or clean the expansion joint, simply loosen the bolts for disassembly. There is no need for cutting or welding, greatly simplifying the process.
2. Reliable sealing:
Sealing is achieved by adding gaskets (such as graphite gaskets, metal wound gaskets, etc.) between the flanges. The sealing performance is good and it is easy to control and maintain.
3. Reusable:
During maintenance of the system, the expansion joint can be removed as a whole, inspected, and if there is no damage, it can be reinstalled and used.
4. High connection strength:
The flange connection provides a strong mechanical connection, capable of withstanding large system loads and bolt tightening forces.
5. Strong versatility:
Flange standards (such as national standard GB, American standard ANSI, German standard DIN, Japanese standard JIS, etc.) are globally applicable, facilitating design selection and procurement, and can easily match existing flange valves, equipment interfaces, etc. in the pipeline system. 
 
Main application fields:
1. HVAC systems: Pipelines connecting chillers, pumps, and cooling towers to compensate for thermal displacement and for vibration isolation.
2. Chemical and petrochemical industries: Near pumps, valves, and heat exchangers that require frequent maintenance or cleaning.
